Why Join a Baby Book Club?

Reading is a big part of every child's development, and joining a baby book club can start your kids off right at a young age. Baby book clubs feature many of children's favorite characters from literature, and can help your youngster get excited about reading and learning early on.  It's also an economical way to start a baby book collection; the books can be passed on to younger children as your child outgrows them.

Most baby book clubs feature simple books in hardcover with lots of images and very little text. Baby book clubs are one great way to start younger children on the literacy path, with books that can instill the love of reading at a very young age. Below, we'll briefly review a few of the more popular baby and children book clubs:

Baby Einstein Book Club is one of the best-known baby book clubs. Designed specifically for pre-readers, Baby Einstein sends club members one audio CD or two baby books monthly. All materials are designed to stimulate your babies' curiosity and establish a love of learning. B.E. is a good choice for parents who'd like to give their baby every possible opportunity to start off right in life.

But if Baby Einstein Book Club doesn't appeal to you, there are several others you might want to consider:

Children's Book of the Month Club is a great book club for readers 2 to 6 years. Children's book of the month offers over 450 contemporary and classic children's books, including award-winning series' and well-known authors. Obviously, Children's Book of the Month Club is designed for (slightly) older kids--for younger babies and pre-readers, Baby Einstein (above) might be a better choice.

Disney Book Clubs are another option for older kids (6+ years) The Disney Club goes beyond reading to encourage problem-solving skills. For more experienced readers, they have a large variety of more complex books. Overall, the Disney book club promotes reading while, helping kids gain general knowledge in a wide range of disciplines like geography and even math.

Highlights Top Secret Adventures is an excellent book club for older kids. Highlight's features engaging adventures that teach students geography, the states and basic American history. Highlight's is wildly popular for kids (especially boys) over 6, and offers a parental newsletter and other free resources.

Learning and encyclopedia sets are also great to help kids learn more about their favorite topics. Of course, they are also useful for creating school reports, or learning about new subjects. Learning and encyclopedia sets are designed especially for children and make learning fun by using lots of pictures, diagrams, and activity suggestions.

One of the best learning products for children is "Scholastic Phonics."  It is recognized as one of the best phonics programs nationwide, and consists of interactive materials; workbooks and storybooks that help students improve reading skills.

Reading is critical to your child's development, and even pre-readers can benefit from getting the "reading bug." Baby book clubs give your kids the right start and (most importantly) encourage a lifelong love of reading and learning.
